February 12, 1909: The NAACP is founded on Lincoln's Birthday. Founders include Ida B. Wells and W.E.B. DuBois, who along with my uncle, civil rights legend, William Monroe Trotter, were co-founders of the Niagara Movement, the NAACP's precursor.
February 13, 1957: The SCLC (Southern Christian Leadership Conference) was organized in New Orleans, and named Dr. Martin Luther King as its first president... I am proud to have received an award from the SCLC of Southern California named after Rosa Parks.
